About:

Philip completed his Master’s at the University of York’s structural biology laboratory under the supervision of Fred Antson. He focused on research investigating a component of the bacteriophage packaging apparatus. Using cryo-EM he successfully resolved the structure of the archaeoviral packaging component revealing conserved structural-mechanistic features comparable for phages infecting both domains of life.

Philip is particularly motivated by research centred on how protein-nucleic acid interactions create specificity for different substrates in-vivo and how this can be used to further understand and treat human disease. He joined Jagtap Lab in September 2026.
